Community Guidelines
Last updated: March 2026
Nook Junkies exists because book nook builders are some of the friendliest, most helpful people on the internet. These guidelines are here to make sure it stays that way.
The short version
Be kind. Be helpful. Celebrate what people build. If you wouldn’t say it to someone showing you their build in person, don’t post it here.
What we encourage
- Help generously. If someone is stuck on a build step, share what worked for you. Photos of how you solved a tricky part are especially valuable. Tag your build journal entries in comments when they’re relevant — that’s exactly what they’re for.
- Celebrate all skill levels. Someone’s first build is just as worth sharing as someone’s twentieth. Encouragement matters, especially for newcomers who aren’t sure their work is “good enough” to post.
- Share honestly. Honest reviews and real build experiences help everyone make better decisions. If a kit was frustrating, say so — constructive criticism of products is welcome and valuable.
- Document your builds. Build journals help the whole community. When you document your process — especially the tricky parts — you’re creating a resource that will help future builders for years.
- Ask questions. There are no dumb questions here. If you’re wondering something, someone else probably is too.
What’s not okay
- Unkindness toward other builders. Criticising someone’s build, mocking their skill level, or being dismissive of their work. Constructive tips offered warmly are great; unsolicited negative feedback is not.
- Harassment or personal attacks. This includes name-calling, threats, sustained negativity toward a specific person, unwanted direct messages, and any form of bullying. Zero tolerance, full stop.
- Hate speech and discrimination. Content that targets people based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic has no place here.
- Political, religious, or otherwise divisive content. People come here to build tiny scenes out of wood and LED lights. Let’s keep it that way. This isn’t the space for debates about anything other than whether hot glue or PVA is better.
- Spam and self-promotion. Don’t use the community to promote your own products, services, YouTube channels, or affiliate links. If you’re a creator who also builds book nooks, share your builds genuinely — the community will find your channel naturally if your content is good.
- Fake reviews or manipulated ratings. Reviews should reflect your real experience. Don’t post reviews for kits you haven’t built, coordinate review campaigns, or use multiple accounts to inflate or deflate ratings.
- Unsafe content. Anything violent, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate for a general audience. This is an all-ages hobby and the community should reflect that.
A note on frustration
Building book nooks can be frustrating. Sometimes a step makes no sense, parts don’t fit, and the glue gets everywhere. Venting about a difficult kit is completely fine — that’s a real part of the hobby and these posts often lead to the most helpful community responses. The line is between “this step is driving me crazy” (totally fine) and directing frustration at another person (not okay).
Photos and images
When you upload photos to the Site:
- Only share images you have the right to post (your own photos, or images you have permission to use).
- Don’t post images of other people without their consent.
- Photos of your builds, your workspace, your tools, and your finished nooks are always welcome.
How we moderate
We want to keep moderation light because the book nook community is genuinely one of the warmest corners of the internet. That said, here’s how we handle things when they come up:
- First, a conversation. For minor issues, we’ll reach out directly. Most of the time, a quick message resolves things. Nobody’s perfect and we assume good intent.
- Content removal. Posts or comments that clearly violate these guidelines may be removed. We’ll let you know why when we do.
- Account suspension or removal. For serious violations (harassment, hate speech, repeated violations after warnings), we will suspend or permanently remove your account. This is a last resort, but we will use it to protect the community.
Reporting
If you see something that doesn’t belong here, let us know. You can email us at nookjunkies@gmail.com. We review every report and will follow up. You will never get in trouble for reporting something in good faith.
Updates to these guidelines
As the community grows, we may update these guidelines. We’ll post about any significant changes in the community feed so everyone stays in the loop. If you have suggestions for how to make this community better, we’re always listening — drop us a note at nookjunkies@gmail.com.
